Bilbo's Story by Kristin Lindstrom

Bilbo sat a morning outside his door,
blowing rings of smoke.
When someone he'd never seen before,
Walked by in a grey cloak.

His name was Gandalf the Grey,
his eyes glowed like burning coal.
Bilbo he had planned to stay,
forever there in his hobbit-hole.

But Gandalf spoke of an adventure,
and a mountain beyond a forest.
Until in Bilbo excitement started stir,
And he joined 13 dwarves on their quest.

They were on their way to a mountain
Far, far away from the Shire.
Where a dragon they were to slain,
for he chased them away with his fire.

They traveled through many places,
met many a dangerous creature.
Saw the light in elven faces,
and a bear who could change his fur.

Bilbo found a ring that was made of gold
where Orcs lived in a mountain deep
The owner, Gollum, who was hungry and cold
tried to kill Bilbo, who escaped with a leap

Whey finally reached their goal
Smaug’s mountain so high
a few of his treasures they stole
but he noticed and flew out with a cry

Smaug got killed by an arrow in the chest
and the dwarves got the mountain back
Bilbo looked forward to having a rest
When the Orcs and wolves did attack

But the Orcs and wolves they lost the battle
the dwarves gave Bilbo gold and sapphire
Now he's home boiling water in his kettle
in his dear hobbit-hole in the Shire
