Welcome to The Specialty Tours. These pages are designed to broaden your experience of Middle-earth, taking you off the "beaten paths" of LotR, The Hobbit, etc., and allowing you to tour Tolkien's world in imaginative new ways. Here you can take a rafting trip all the way down Anduin from its roots in the Grey Mountains to its terminus in the Bay of Belfalas, or walk the Great East Road from Eriador to Rivendell. Here, too, you can visit little-known locations like Tharbad and Framsburg, or compare Elvish architecture from three different ages and nine different locations. The names may occasionally be unfamiliar, but rest assured, all the places on this tour are Tolkien "canon." They appear on his maps and in his writings, and the pictures on this tour were selected because they clearly represent Tolkien's intent for a particular region. | |
|
Most (but not all!) of the images on this tour are available elsewhere on the site, but here you'll find them in some unusual combinations. They're also frequently accompanied by quotes from the more obscure Tolkien writings like Unfinished Tales or a book from the History of Middle-Earth series. The Specialty Tours truly are a unique section of Middle-Earth Tours. Enjoy your travels.
